چکیده

Ann Saudi Med 2006;26(1):56-58 tuberculous aortitis (ta) is a rare entity that is invariably indicative of disseminated tuberculosis. ta is associated with aneurysm formation in about half of cases. another possible complication is perforation of adjacent structures.1-7 Both abdominal and thoracic aorta are involved with equal frequency.7-9 Fatal outcomes are frequently reported even after antituberculosis chemotherapy and surgical intervention. We present a case of tuberculous aortic aneurysm (tBaa) that underwent surgical resection and graft replacement in the bed of the infected aorta. Following an apparently successful chemotherapy, the patient died suddenly. We postulate that reactivation of the un-eradicated bacilli precipitated graft failure. similar cases in the literature are reviewed. We propose lifelong suppressive therapy with antituberculosis agents to prevent such a catastrophic event.

A case of tuberculous thoracic aortitis with massive hemoptysis resulting from rupture of involved aorta into lung.

it is generally accepted that tuberculous lesions are rarely found in the wall of the aorta. Wettland and Scott’ (1956) reported a case of tuberculous false aneurysm of the aorta with rupture into the bronchus. According to their study, tuberculous aortic perforation into the respiraLory tract had only occurred in four previously published cases. Prior’ (1955) also reported a case with tubercul...

Tuberculous Aortitis Complicated with Pseudoaneurysm Formation in the Descending Thoracic Aorta: A Case Report

A 51-year-old male with sustained fever was diagnosed with military tuberculosis and tuberculous aortitis complicated with pseudoaneurysm formation at the proximal descending aorta. A follow-up computed tomography evaluation showed an increased size of the pseudoaneurysm in this area, suggestive of a contained rupture. Consequently, the patient underwent emergency excision and replacement of th...

Aortitis.

Aortitis is the all-encompassing term ascribed to inflammation of the aorta. The most common causes of aortitis are the large-vessel vasculitides giant cell arteritis (GCA) and Takayasu arteritis, although it also is associated with several other rheumatologic diseases. Infectious aortitis is a rare but potentially life-threatening disorder. In some cases, aortitis is an incidental finding at t...

Pleural effusion associated with aortitis syndrome.

A patient with aortitis syndrome had a pleural effusion which subsided but reappeared with an exacerbation of aortitis symptoms while under antituberculosis treatment. The character of the fluid was that of an exudate, and the glucose concentration was normal. Clinical and laboratory features of the case suggest that the effusion was part of the aortitis syndrome per se.
